20 Things a Songwriter can do with 15 minutes
Do you find it hard to devote the time you want to writing and producing music? Is your life full of distractions that keep you away from working at what you love?
How can we manage time so that we do the things we must, but get to the things that really fuel us and make us happy creatives?
Let me introduce you to the 15 minute opportunity.
Mostly likely we usually don’t have 3 hours to dive into music and ignore all else, but we probably might have 15 minutes. If we can focus in for 15 minutes only, it’s amazing what kind of stuff we can actually get done.
Here are some examples:
Write some lyric titles into the phone.
Draft a first verse to a lyric in a virtual/real notebook.
Draft a second verse to a lyric in a virtual/real notebook.
Draft a bridge lyric.
Record a melody into the phone.
Explore a sound in your DAW.
Studying someone’s else’s lyric that inspires you.
Watch a lyric video on YouTube.
Read a chapter of a book that inspires you.
Hum a melody into your phone voice memo app.
Organize your desktop- clean out the clutter and put them in folders that make sense.
Explore a few sounds in your new music plug-in.
Re-write a verse lyric.
Re-write a chorus lyric.
Re-write a bridge lyric.
Research a t.v. show that you think your music might fit.
Watch some ads where you think your music might fit.
Do some research on a music supervisor picking music out for a show your music would be a fit for.
Do some work on meta-tags for your songs.
Organize your virtual desktop.
It’s about using the time we have… and making that work for us.
So, instead of wishing for more time to create music, start by using the time you do have and see how the little bits add up!
